Work-life balance is a challenge for many. We often hear “balance” and think it means you need to have equal time in the workplace vs. personal life category, but this is not always possible. It is all about finding what works for you and striving to be happy with that balance!

Being able to leave any work-related issues at work and family issues at home is a great positive for any employee. And this can be achieved through an employee feeling in control of their own life. Employees that exemplify balance in their life, both inside and outside of work have been shown to exist at a higher level of happiness. This is because with less external stressors they can contribute more toward the company’s productivity then those who lack this trait.

These companies also tend to enjoy higher employee retention rates. Resulting in less time-consuming training, more loyalty, and a higher degree of in-house expertise.

 

Tips On How To Maintain Work-Life Balance

1. Focus on your strengths

Learn and sharpen up your craft in which you add value. Sharpen up on all of its aspects in order for you to do so effectively.

2. Prioritize your work-time

You may have a to-do list with 50 tasks on it. So you need to prioritize those tasks into categories in terms of urgency, importance and relevance.

3. Plot some personal time

If you are feeling overwhelmed and need a break consider scheduling time for yourself. You may want to take some personal days or just schedule an hour of “me” time.”

4. Have set work hours – and stick to them

To stay productive, it is important to set a schedule and stick with work hours. Often people can get less done when they are working outside of this range because they do not have enough time for breaks or downtime.

5. Find time for your finances

Financial confidence plays a major part in establishing happiness. Financial security has been linked with increased levels of self-esteem, tolerance for stress, as well as general feelings of personal accomplishment.

6. Create a timeline of your activities.

Specific computer programs can help with this. Or you can customize your own Excel spreadsheet or Word table.

7. Include family commitments

This includes holidays, birthday parties, etc. – so you do not forget that you are unavailable for work on those days.

8. Exercise and meditate

Exercise is often the first thing to go when our calendars fill up. This can be regarded as an effective stress reducer and can be an effective strategy for managing your weight, blood pressure levels, and mood swings when you’re feeling overwhelmed at work or home due to high demands from others in those areas.

9. Start small and build from there.

The key is to stay consistent and learn it as a way of life. So start with small changes as it is easier to maintain.
