Bringing Awareness to a Deadly Disease
World TB Day is a chance for us to raise public awareness about the devastating consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic.
On the 24th of March in 1882, Dr Robert Koch, discovered the cause of Tuberculosis. At the time of his announcement in Berlin, the disease caused devastating effects in parts of Europe and America, killing one in seven people. Koch’s discovery has opened the way towards diagnosing and curing this disease.
Did you know that there are over 400 thousand TB patients living in South Africa? TB remains one of the world’s most infectious and deadliest diseases. While there are effective treatments available, and the country has made progress in fighting the disease, the epidemic needs more awareness.
